Starting in the beginning of November, the US gets into the holiday mood with people rushing to their favorite online stores in hopes to get the best deals. This time of year isn’t only important to customers, but it is the most crucial time of year for business owners and retailers as you’re looking forward to making more sales and increasing your customer base. So with only a few days left before Black Friday and Cyber Monday, is your business ready to handle the last minute holiday chaos? If not, here’s a last minute Black Friday checklist to ensure your business is ready!
- Verify all links are working and website is ready for the surge traffic
According to Retail Dive, 90% of shoppers will leave a website if it loads too slowly for their liking. So this then begs the question, how slow is too slow? According to Google, any site that takes more than three seconds to load will result in 53% of visitors leaving for the competition. If your site is slow or unresponsive during Black Friday and Cyber Monday the losses can be staggering. Also, make sure your links are all working and are taking customers to the correct location. This task is easy to look over because you may assume all your links are working, but if not it can be a huge sales loss.
2. Have more than one payment processor option
During the holiday shopping season, customers are very much on the go! They are in a rush to get from place to place and making sure their long shopping lists are complete. It is important to understand that customers have different preferences for payment options. So in case one of them fails/has an issue, what is your backup plan? Offering quick and flexible payment options is a great way to remove some of the stress from holiday shopping and makes your life a lot easier in the process.
3. Make sure your Facebook Pixel and Google Analytics are installed and working properly
All good business owners know that the Black Friday holiday shopping is just the beginning of the shopping season. Making sure your FB Pixel and Google Analytics are installed properly and will allow you to re-target website visitors after the Black Friday and Cyber Monday weekend is over. Making sure these are installed are going to be key in making sure you serve the right re-targeting ads to your users and that they’re related to their browsing history. Remember that many stores run out of items fast so lots of customers will be looking for alternative gifts due to shipping delays and shortages, etc. Be prepared in these ways to help in those situations.
4. Emails & Text Messages Already Scheduled to Announce Sale AND for abandoned cart sequence/re-targeting ads
COVID-19 is once again shaping Black Friday marketing trends this holiday season. It is true that we are slowly transitioning back into in person shopping, however, online shopping will again be the primary way for customers to shop this year. Reaching customers while they’re at home will be critical for sales, and a solid Black Friday SMS and Email Marketing strategy can help your business do that. Cart abandonment is a costly thorn in the side for online retailers, particularly on Black Friday and throughout the holiday shopping season. But with the right re-targeting ads, abandoned carts can be seen as an opportunity, not solely a problem. By setting up the right tracking I mentioned before, you can serve them specific ads that bring them back on site to the products they checked out.
5. Not just discounts, consider other options
What is going to set your business apart this holiday season? Discounts won’t be enough. Every company will be discounting products. So what else are you doing? Consider alternative ways in which you can catch the attention of customers. Consider offering bundle deals, upgrades, add ons, free shipping, “Kohl’s cash”— bucks to spend with me later, free trials, etc. All of these things can further incentive people to shop with you this holiday season.
